The Best European Destinations to Consider for an Upcoming Anniversary

Do you have a big wedding anniversary on the horizon? Are you looking to make it a day to remember? If so, you’re in the right place.

Whether it be your first, second, tenth or fiftieth wedding anniversary, it’s important to spend your day enjoying your time with one another, cherishing all the moments you have shared together up to that point.

So, what better way is there to do exactly that than by packing up your suitcase, dusting off your passport and heading off on a romantic European break together.

After all, from the architecture of Spain to the islands of Italy to the vineyards of France, Europe is jam packed full of amazing destinations to celebrate your anniversary in style.

However, we understand how difficult it can be to decide where to go, which is why we have done some of the hard work for you. Join us as we run through some of the best European destinations we think you should consider heading to for your upcoming wedding anniversary.

Camber Sands, UK

Let’s start with a destination fairly close to home. Located just down the road from London, Camber Sands is an area of Sussex famed for its association with the famous battle of 1066 and its wide array of stunning beaches.

Featuring unspoilt views of sand and sea that stretch for miles on end, the area is the perfect place to get away and soak up the sea air, offering a wide variety of easily accessible sightseeing hotspots on its doorstep.

What’s more, if you or your partner are big into your films and TV series, Camber Sands is often used as a location to film various well-known scenes – from Ricky Gervais’ Netflix hit Afterlife to Stephen Hawking’s biopic The Theory of Everything.

Paris, France

Featuring a buzzing atmosphere, Paris is not only the home of fashion, but it also has some of the best restaurants you could ever wish to visit. Furthermore, it’s also chock-a-block full of tourist attractions – from wandering around the Louvre and climbing the Eiffel Tower, to sipping champagne and visiting Disneyland.

The French capital also has excellent transport links with other European countries, meaning your anniversary doesn’t necessarily have to stop in France. Amsterdam, Berlin and London are all relatively accessible and easy to get to from the city of love.

Alternatively, head down the Seine towards the South of France, where you’ll be able to relax and enjoy a glass of wine or five at one of the well-known vineyards.

Venice, Italy

Famed for its romantic atmosphere, Venice is a must-visit for couples – whether now or at some other point in the future.

An Italian city made up of 177 canals, 400 bridges and 118 islands, Venice is also the home of the gondola – a long narrow boat used by many couples to romantically navigate the various canals, rivers and islands of Venice.

Featuring an abundance of art galleries and markets, Venice is also located a short distance away from Murana Island – known to be the home of Venetian glassmaking – and Burano – another beautiful island famed for its tradition of lace-making.

In other words, you’re sure to have plenty of romantic things to do during your time here.

Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Famed for its glistening waterways and beautiful tulip fields, Amsterdam is the ideal place to visit if you’re only looking for a short weekend break away.

While the city may be well-known for its crazy nightlife and infamous red-light district, it is also home to some of Europe’s most beautiful sights and scenery – from the Molen Van Sloten windmill to the numerous canals and bridges.

What’s more, it is also incredibly easy to get to from the UK and Europe – whether that be via taking a short trip via the Eurostar, hopping on a train from one of mainland Europe’s major stations, driving between the city’s various bordering countries or cycling through some of The Netherland’s stunning bike routes.

Barcelona, Spain

While on the topic of beautiful cities with an abundance of things to see and do, Barcelona is another great option to consider visiting for your anniversary.

Featuring amazing architecture, buzzing bars and creative cuisine, the Catalan capital is also home to some of the most unique artwork in Europe and a huge array of golden beaches – the perfect way to relax and reminisce on your time together.

Similarly, the food available in Barcelona is truly second to none, with many restaurants in the city serving up a wide range of specialities like tapas, paella and – who could forget – sangria.

Happy anniversary!

Whether you’re looking to relax on the sunny beaches of Barcelona, enjoy the various sights of Amsterdam or channel your inner child at Disneyland Paris, we hope the European destinations listed above have provided you with some inspiration to help guide your anniversary decision.

Wherever you decide to go, we hope you have a wonderful time!
