This is definitely one for hardcore thrill-seekers. If you or your partner suffer from vertigo, don’t read on: best to spend your wedding anniversary in more sedate (and ground level) surroundings.
If, however, you don’t mind being suspended nearly 80 metres above London, in what is described as the “world’s first urban cliff camping motel”, then the Renegade Motel is right up your street – or ladder.
Two couples are being offered the chance to spend a night suspended on one of The O2’s iconic yellow pylons, on 18 or 19 September, as part of a competition being held in conjunction with the arrival of the new Jeep Renegade 4xe plug-in hybrid. The closing date for entries is 14 September at 11.59pm.
The Renegade Motel is powered by the hybrid Jeep and the stay includes exceptional views, sunset drinks, dinner, bed (sleeping bags) and breakfast, 24-hour concierge and free Wi-Fi. The climb to this novel B&B is certainly not for the faint-hearted, but it is a once-in-a-lifetime staycation experience for couples seeking something extraordinary to celebrate their wedding anniversary. A head for heights and a sense of adventure are essential.
For those missing out on this occasion, Jeep plan to introduce Renegade Roof Top Motels in a select number of other UK urban locations – albeit in less “extreme” settings.
An innovative hanging tent system known as a portaledge, the “motel” has been fixed 250 feet (76 metres) above the ground on a ledge, where guests can watch the sun set and rise over the Canary Wharf, one of London’s most impressive skylines.
In addition to dinner, bed and breakfast and 24-hour concierge service, the tent is equipped with features inspired by the new Renegade PHEV, including a Wi-Fi hotspot, Amazon Alexa connectivity (which links to the guests’ Renegade 4xe on the ground) and a portable power supply charged by the hybrid Jeep. Key basics such as rain cover for protection from potential unfavourable elements and “very warm” sleeping bags are also supplied.
Guests will travel to the motel in a Jeep Renegade 4xe plug-in hybrid, delivered to their front door. On arrival, they will be treated to a preview of their sleeping arrangements while enjoying the “Up at The O2”. roofwalk experience, before dining in The O2 then heading up to their “room”.
Revealing details of the competition, Jeep UK country manager Damien Dally said, “By suspending the world’s first urban cliff camping motel on The O2 roof, we’re giving Brits a unique opportunity to see and enjoy London from an exhilarating new vantage point. We won’t be stopping there: with our Renegade Roof Top Motel we are planning a tour to other well-loved UK cities to offer even more spectacular views.”
Added Steve Sayer, vice president and general manager of The O2, “We’re thrilled that Jeep has chosen our venue for the first ever urban cliff camping motel and we’re really looking forward to seeing it suspended from one of our iconic yellow pylons. The guests are in for a real treat and will experience some amazing views of London during their stay in the Renegade Motel.”
As for the new car model, Damien Dally said, “Jeep has always been known as a brand that enables its drivers to fulfil their outdoor adventures. With the launch of our Renegade 4xe plug-in hybrid we now have a car that makes urban exploring even more accessible. No Congestion Charge, no ULEZ, just adventure.”
Following the Renegade Motel launch, the Renegade Roof Top Motels will move to other UK locations, with guests provided with a Jeep Renegade plug-in hybrid to drive to their “room with a view”, taking their accommodation with them in the form of a TentBox: a portable pop-up tent that sits on the roof of the Renegade 4xe.
This is good news for vertigo sufferers planning their wedding anniversary celebration for a future date. As Jeep note, “While offering the same benefits as the Renegade Motel at The O2, the Renegade Roof Top Motels are likely to be a more welcome accommodation option for guests who aren’t necessarily the biggest fans of heights but still want a taste of urban adventure.”
