About 81st Wedding Anniversaries
This 81st wedding anniversary celebration is the kind of “good news” that richly deserves national coverage in honour of the happy couple. Anyone reading their story can only be amazed that they have spent a remarkable 81 years together – a rare feat indeed.
This anniversary represents an extraordinary level of sustained love and devotion, and by now the couple will have been front seat witnesses to so many changes, both universally around the world and in their own private lives – including seeing their family grow to include (perhaps) great-great-grandchildren.
Gift Ideas for the Couple
Anniversary gifts for couples celebrating more than eight decades together – and who have most probably amassed all the material things they need in life – are best shared. Gather the extended family together from far and wide to celebrate their special day.
They will both be fascinating fountains of knowledge and experience, so spend time chatting about all the good times they remember. These stories are authentic family heirlooms, and ideally should be written down or made into a scrap book for generations to come.
Eighty one years amounts to 972 months and nearly 30,000 days, so the couple may very well have lived through the “Roaring Twenties”. The 1920s era, or “Jazz Age”, is still fondly recalled for its art deco, colourful flapper and gangster outfits, “The Great Gatsby”, speakeasy bars and ragtime music.
Clearly, plenty of material to organise a lavish theme party. Hire a local combo to play big band jazz, vibrant music that is sure to encourage your guests to renew their jive and Charleston skills on the dance floor – and relish classic tunes from the “King of Ragtime”, Scott Joplin. You could even include a torch singer for added fun.
If it isn’t possible to book a live band, or accommodate them at home, there will be plentiful music files available online, or you could ask older family members and friends if they have compilation CDs in their collections.
Alternatively, book a vintage car ride for the couple and take them to a serene park setting for a picnic, or to a favourite restaurant they haven’t visited for a while. As always, make sure you give the restaurant ample advance notice of the special nature of the party, so the couple are absolutely pampered.
The twenties and early-thirties were also – less glamorously – known for prohibition being in force in the US, before its repeal by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Fortunately, no problems with alcohol bans these days, so the couple will be able to share a chilled Champagne toast with family and friends to mark another memorable year together.
