About 77th Wedding Anniversaries

At this stage of a couple’s married life, celebrating any new wedding anniversary becomes just as richly cherished as the glittering golden, diamond and platinum milestones of previous decades.

Perhaps even more so, because each year – and you are now looking forward to a remarkable 77th wedding anniversary celebration – adds a poignant new layer of love and shared memories to your marriage.

Gift Ideas for the Couple

There are no traditional symbols associated with the 77th wedding anniversary, but there are still many wonderful ways to make the celebrating couple feel special. As they are likely to be well on their way to 100th birthdays, travel might not be an option. Nevertheless, mobility issues can be overcome by transporting the couple in a luxury limousine.

Why not organise an afternoon tea for them and the whole family, including dainty sandwiches, and a selection of scones with homemade preserves and clotted cream, all topped off with a replica of their wedding cake? You could enjoy this celebration at a plush hotel, or arrange the catering for a party at home.

A couple married for 77 years will have spent an impressive 28,104 days together, and during that time they will have accumulated a myriad of treasured memories. So, if you want to add an extra special touch and provide a great talking point for all the family and friends, tap into those memories and commit their own life story to print – with a montage of family photographs over the past seven decades-plus.

Flowers are always greatly appreciated, and especially so if you create a stunning floral arrangement of bright yellow daffodils, popularly believed to signify that “the sun always shines when I’m with you”. Or red camellias – meaning “you’re a flame in my heart”.

Arrange for them to be delivered to their home on the day of the anniversary, and perhaps attach some theatre tickets for the more agile couples.

And be sure – well beforehand – to arrange with Buckingham Palace for the Queen to honour their 77th wedding anniversary with her traditional congratulatory card.

My parents celebrate their 77th anniversary this year. What year did they celebrate their 40th anniversary?

77…that’s quite an achievement. They will have celebrated their 40th in 1979!
