About 51st Wedding Anniversaries
After last year’s momentous celebration of five decades of married life, it might be a little difficult to come up with another special gift to mark your 51st wedding anniversary. As always, however, we are here to help.
Traditional anniversary gift lists aren’t much assistance any more, as they tend to become quite scarce for ideas after the 50th anniversary. No matter, though, because with a little thought and creativity you can find something that tells your partner you would marry them all over again – and lets your parents or grandparents know how much you love them.
How to Celebrate a 51st Wedding Anniversary
Neither are there any traditional symbols to commemorate the 51st anniversary. So that opens up the opportunity of considering thoughtful homemade anniversary gifts that bring together a variety of ideas. Including, for example, a gift basket filled with items that both mum and dad would enjoy. Or photo-based gifts such as a homemade scrapbook or a framed personalised poem.
Parties are always popular and fun for any anniversary celebration. This year, keeping it low-key after last year’s excitement, you could arrange an informal open house for the day, with family and friends visiting and spending time together. Or let someone else do the preparation and cooking, and invite your closest circle to a surprise party in a local restaurant, bistro pub or club.
A kiss on the hand may feel very, very good, but a diamond and sapphire bracelet lasts forever.” Quoted by: Anita Loos

Poor hubby has Parkinson’s amd just come home after a fall from hospital. Hospital care appalling. It’s our 51st anniversary tomorrow. We were married in deep snow so a real white wedding. So awful to watch the one you love deteriorate and nothing you can do. I pray to god that he could just go to sleep. He used to ride fast motorbikes and classic bikes. Now he doesn’t know what door is the bedroom or loo. Bless. It’s very hard work up 5/6 times a night. Give my right arm to have care at night. Thanks for just listening. There’s no one there. Xx
Hi Madge,
I know how you feel. My mum and Dad will be married 51 years this Sunday, but, sadly, they’ll be spending it just like any other day – with my mum performing all the tasks of a full time carer. My Dad has advanced Alzheimer’s and now can’t even speak or walk, but my mum is utterly devoted and never leaves his side. As always, it will be heartbreaking that he won’t even know that Sunday is their special day.
God bless you both. If your love and marriage has lasted so long, he will know you still. Even on the darkest and loneliest nights, the stars still shine. Happy 51St Wedding Anniversary. There are people here x
It’s my parents’ 51st anniversary next week. My Dad has stage 4 kidney disease, is very confused and has a bad heart. He will spend the day in front of the computer and mum will be caring for him. Maybe we’ll go out for a bite to eat, who knows? It all depends on how my dad is feeling.
Cherish the good days, guys xx
It’s my parents 51st anniversary this month mum sadly has lived in a hospital for the last two years with dementia . At 69 years old I feel so robbed and my poor father is lost . We should be celebrating as a family this was never in our plans .
The long goodbye
We are so thankful we are both fit and well apart from a few aches and pains. We will celebrate today with a trip out to a favourite place and a nice lunch. We had family yesterday but today is ours. My advice to all, whatever your state is a saying of Mohamed Ali; ” Live each day as though it were your last because one day it will be.” So whether you are fit and well grab the moment however fleeting.
Alzheimer’s? As a Pastor I find myself faced with calling on Home Bound and Nursing Home Bound members of my congregation. I was calling on a woman in her mid-nineties in a Nursing Home. Just a few years earlier she was still singing in the choir. Her Niece met me at the Nursing Home after church. She insisted that she wouldn’t know we were there and would probably sleep through the entire visit. Still, we met and talked and Marie did indeed sleep through the entire visit.
After about an hour I decided to leave. Marie’s Niece held one of her hands and I the other and we prayed. As I closed the prayer, I did so with The Lord’s Prayer. A few words in, Marie opened her eyes, prayed along and then closed her eyes with Amen and went back to sleep.
They might not be able to respond but I’m convinced they are still aware. Treat those with Alzheimer’s with respect and watch what you say around them.
